Elemental Stones
(Notes, possibly relate to Ioun)
The Angharad People have discovered magic that taps into the energy of other planes. These are created by incantations performed at certain sites left by the Ancients. In Angtiria these locations are the city of Erada (a stone circle somewhere overlooking the dam), The Sun Temple of Lugh and the Earth Temple of Dana. Different locations can produce different stones. Erada can produce all elemental stone types. The Temple of Dana produces earth, air and water. The Sun Temple produces fire, and air.
Using a Ceremony Incantation priests of the Circle produce stones charged with elemental power. Generally speaking the more charges a stone retains, it becomes exponentially more massive (weight increases faster than size). Each charge of a stone produces a minor elemental effect. Stones with a high number of charges must be moved into what will be its permanent position and then another priestly incantation is required to activate it. Smaller stones can be activated by anyone with a minor incantation.
Elemental Stone Types:
Consider having these somehow used/charged/boosted by cantrips and concentration spells.
- Fire (Produced at Erada and Sun Temple of Lugh)
- Foundry Stones - Basically super dense clean burning coal. Burns hotter and shorter than Earth Stones. When started it burns until depleted.
- Light of Lugh - Special stones that emanate light and positive energy in a radius. These are difficult to make. They have been used by Champions of Lugh in conflicts with Picts and undead. Typically it is mounted on the helm of the Champion and activated, but has been known to also be incorporated into weapons. Either way it takes great strength to carry its weight.
- Water (Produced at Erada and the Temple of Dana)
- Fountain Stones - Produces a week long stream of water the emanates in all directions.
- Purifying Stones - Will cleanse an amount of water and it will be pure and safe to ingest.
- Air (Produced at Erada, the Sun Temple and the Temple of Dana)
- Sail Stones - These create a local effect under the open sky which helps vessels with sail move upriver. Its power is limited so it only works on vessels of limited mass. Multiple stones operating too closely together cancel out the magic.
- Sail Stones can be powered by magic. A constantly renewed effect by cantrip or a longer duration concentration leveled spell (?). Perhaps elementally aligned domain spells.
- Sail Stones - These create a local effect under the open sky which helps vessels with sail move upriver. Its power is limited so it only works on vessels of limited mass. Multiple stones operating too closely together cancel out the magic.
- Earth (Produced at Erada, and the Temple of Dana)
- Foundry Stones (as above)
- Earth Stones - These produce a subtle and lingering effect that helps improve growth of plants. Crops rarely fail after a use of one of these stones. They are used most frequently by priests of the Circle when adverse conditions threaten a crop.
